Cars for Sale in South Dakota
They lyrics to 'Home on the Range' wax poetically about the freedom and rustic romanticism of the American West. It was first written in the early 1870s by Brewster M. Higley and went on to become the unofficial anthem of the American West, but the spirit of it still lives on in spirit, if not in reality within the state of South Dakota. The line demanding the singer be given 'a home where the buffalo roam' is actually something that still exists in South Dakota. Custer State Park is home to some 1,500 free-roaming bison.
South Dakota was also home to some of the most flourishing mining communities during the height of the gold rush. In fact, the largest underground gold mine in the country is in the Homestake Mine in Lead. It’s a state that, while now modern, still has the flavor and feel of its Old West origins, some of which you can still see for yourself as you drive from city to city, town to town.
South Dakotans do plenty of driving on their own. The average licensed driver in South Dakota will log about 14,723 miles annually, and they’ll do it in one (or possibly more) of the 923,226 registered vehicles on the state’s roads. There are 411 dealerships with cars for sale, many of which contribute to the $2.43 billion in new car sales and help keep afloat the 12,376 auto industry jobs found throughout the state.
Some of that driving can be done on the state’s two National Scenic Byways, the Peter Norbeck National Scenic Byway in Black Hills, and the Native American Scenic Byway along the Missouri River. Other scenic byways include the Badlands Loop Scenic Byway, the Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, and the Wildlife Loop Road Scenic Byway.
Just be sure that you never fall asleep in a cheese factory, that’s against the law.
