Little Rock, incorporated in 1831, is the capital and the most populous city in Arkansas. The city is located on the south bank of the Arkansas River. The city is best known for Little Rock Central High School, the site of forced desegregation during the Civil Rights Movement. Little Rock is the cultural center of Arkansas with several fine art establishments and museums. The state park has several hiking trails, including the Arkansas Trail that runs through the Arkansas Arboretum. The Little Rock Zoo and Willow Springs Water Park, built in 1928 and one of the first water theme parks in the United States, are within the city.
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Philander Smith College, and Arkansas Baptist College and the four higher education institutions in Little Rock. The city is served by the Central Arkansas Transit Authority's buses and River Rail Electric System. Bill and Hillary Clinton have both resided in Little Rock.
