Huntington Beach is a seaside city in Southern California that is known for its 9.5 mile long stretch of sandy beaches and great year round surfing. As one of the few areas in the world that has year round surfing and the site of the U.S. Open of Surfing, Huntington Beach is known as "Surf City." The city has several surfing related sites that relate to its name, including the Surfing Walk of Fame and the International Surfing Museum.

Downtown Huntington Beach contains an art district, a lively shopping center, and the Huntington Beach Pier. Surf City Nights is hosted downtown every Tuesday night throughout the year by the Huntington Beach Downtown Business Improvement District and the City of Huntington Beach. The community event includes a farmer's market, unique entertainment, food, kiddie rides, and a carnival atmosphere. Other events in the city include the annual Fourth of July Parade that has been held since 1904, the SoCal Independent Film Festival, the Surf City USA marathon with over 20,000 runners, the Kite Festival, and the Cruise of Lights Boat Tour.

Huntington Beach consists of four different facing beaches that make for good surf waves in at least one of areas year round. The Bolsa Chica State Beach that is operated by the state of California is the Northwest beach and facing the west is "The Cliffs" or "Dog Beach." Southwest includes the City of Huntington Beach, the only beach operated by the city, while south facing is Huntington State Beach. The city is also home to a large marshy wetland that is protected by the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve and is popular with birdwatchers and photographers.

Huntington Beach sits above a large natural fault structure containing oil that provides the city with a large part of its funds. Boeing has a major installation in the city and is the top employer of residents of Huntington Beach.
