Bold & Progressive: 2018 Range Rover Evoque Convertible
Land Rover unveiled its first luxury compact convertible SUV back in 2016. Introduced along the iconic coastline of Los Angeles in Santa Monica California as the newest member of the Range Rover family, as it was revealed for the first time ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show. Marrying luxury with an elegant four-seat convertible design, versatile storage and unrivalled capability both on and off-road, the Range Rover Evoque Convertible combines the bold design and refinement of the Range Rover Evoque with a sophisticated folding roof to create a versatile, all-season convertible SUV.
Land Rover designers have retained the bold and progressive exterior design of the Range Rover Evoque with the convertible roof system open or closed. A sophisticated fabric roof with tension-bow architecture creates a defined silhouette that remains faithful to the original design of the vehicle, while the Z-fold mechanism folds flush with the rear bodywork for a sleek, uncluttered appearance. New frameless doors have also been developed to ensure a clean profile when the roof is stowed.
Available SE Dynamic or HSE Dynamic trim levels, power is generated by a 2.0L Ingenium four-cylinder gasoline engine. Torque is delivered to the wheels through a ZF (9HP) nine-speed automatic transmission.
Significant chassis bracings support the unique load casings of the Evoque Convertible, actually increasing torsional rigidity over the coupe model. This ensures an on-road driving experience comparable with the hard-top model and a vehicle every bit as capable as the existing Range Rover Evoque derivatives. The Evoque Convertible also benefits from an inherently strong base structure with high-strength steel in the door sills. This structure features added chassis bracings to compensate for the removal of the roof, providing the stiffness essential for excellent handling and refinement.
Enhancing its dynamic capability further, the all-independent sports suspension has optimized spring rates, incorporating larger diameter anti-roll bars to deliver high levels of driver engagement, as well as roll stiffness equivalent to coupe derivatives. Careful tuning ensures the vehicle's exceptional ride quality has not been compromised.
Inside the passenger cabin features a spacious and contemporary four-seat interior defined by luxury materials and soft-touch surfaces. The strikingly minimalist dashboard architecture contrasts the bold horizontal sweep of the instrument panel with the dynamic vertical rake of the center console. All Range Rover Evoque Convertible models feature fixed twin rear seats, with a central bolster, and revised quarter trim speakers.
