Upping the ante - 2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck
It is the biggest, toughest most versatile Super Duty pickup ever manufactured. Completely redesigned and updated last year, Ford's F-250 Super Duty pickup builds on the automaker's full-size truck capability leadership. The Ford F-250 Super Duty is offered in three cab styles – Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab and two cargo bed lengths – 6 ¾ ft. and 8 ft. The F-250 Super Duty is offered in XL, XLT, FX4, Lariat, Harley Davidson Edition and King Ranch models.
Changes and enhancements for 2009 to the standard equipment roster by trim level includes: XL – air conditioning, SecuriLock and manual trailer tow mirrors; XLT –power heated trailer tow mirrors, privacy glass, integrated trailer brake controller, remote keyless entry and SecuriLock; FX4 – PowerScope integrated power-fold, power-telescoping mirrors, power seats, privacy glass, integrated trailer brake controller, captain's chairs, and SIRIUS satellite radio; Lariat – all of the FX4 new standard content plus reverse camera system, power sliding rear window, heated seats, molded running boards and SYNC – Ford's voice-activated communications and entertainment system.
The Ford F-250 Super Duty pickups are also loaded with available industry-first features like the integrated Tailgate Step, a pull-out step inside the tailgate along with a pop-up assist handle that makes getting in and out of the truck bed simple and easy. When not in use, it stows out of the way and doesn't interfere with the cargo bed.
Other industry-leading features include Ford's TowCommand system with integrated trailer brake controller and the PowerScope power-fold, power-telescoping trailer-tow side mirrors.
Available in two- or four-wheel drive, three powertrains are available: a 5.4L Triton V8, 6.8L Triton V10, and a 6.4L V8 Power Stroke twin-turbo diesel. Power is communicated to the ground through a six-speed manual gearbox with overdrive or a TorqShift five-speed automatic transmission.
The 6.4-liter Power Stroke ® Diesel utilizes Ford Clean Diesel Technology, which includes among other features; a high-pressure, common rail fuel system, Piezo-electric fuel injectors and an advanced diesel particulate filter system to deliver strong performance while reducing particulate output by more than 90 percent and posting emissions numbers on par with gasoline engines. High-tech, series sequential turbochargers provide improved response and better low-end performance.
On the road, The F-250 Super Duty equipped with the optional 6.8L V10 prime mover and TorqShift five-speed automatic transmission is impressively smooth and responsive, with a firm but comfortable ride.
Each chassis in the Super Duty truck family is custom-tailored to provide the utmost in strength, flexibility and durability. Every Super Duty frame is E-coated for improved corrosion protection. The new fully boxed front section has been optimized to meet the government's standards for vehicle compatibility without the need for an added blocker beam. The unique front frame horn design lowers the frame by seven inches, improving vehicle cooling and providing a solid footing for the hydroformed body structure.
Robust 6.7 mm steel out raids utilize cross members that have been modified to help with powertrain noise isolation. Super Duty's cross members are riveted and welded for added strength. Reinforcements have been added to several areas for increased cargo and towing capacity.
Control hardware for the Super Duty combines a proven front suspension with an all-new leaf-spring suspension to deliver a more refined and confident ride without compromising on capability.
Inside the cabin is an interior that redefines what Ford calls "Tough Luxury." Class-exclusive Quiet Steel technology provides the base for the truck's quiet interior. The Super Duty has been engineered to do double-duty, serving as everything from an on-site office to the cabin of a long-haul family cruiser.
