Style, Safety & Luxury: 2017 Subaru Legacy Sedan
The Subaru Legacy was last completely redesigned for the 2015 model year. Available in 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited and 3.6R Limited models, the 2017 model year sees the addition of the Legacy 2.5i Sport. The new trim level debuts with exclusive styling features including 18-in. sport-styled wheels, dark gray front grille, fog lights, chrome-accent rocker trim and high luster silver-finished turn-signal mirrors. Exclusive two-tone interior features cloth upholstery with blue stitching and piano black and carbon fiber patterned trim. Legacy Sport is available with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, Blind Spot Detection & High Beam Assist as well as Reverse Automatic Braking.
Other updates and enhancements include the Legacy Limited trim models with EyeSight now also come equipped with Blind Spot Detection & High Beam Assist and Reverse Automatic Braking and HID (high intensity discharge) low beam headlights.
Base power for the Legacy sedan is generated by a 2.5L horizontally opposed (BOXER) four-cylinder with the Active Valve Control System and joined to a Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic with six-speed manual mode and paddle shift control switches. The 3.6R Limited is outfitted with a 3.6L horizontally opposed BOXER six-cylinder prime mover and mated to a high-torque version of the Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission) automatic with six-speed manual mode and paddle shift control switches. Subaru’s vaunted Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system is standard. In addition, all models are equipped with Incline Start Assist and the electronic Hill Holder System that holds the vehicle in place until the driver applies the throttle.
The Legacy’s MacPherson strut front suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension has been optimized for greater handling agility and a more compliant ride. Quick-ratio electric power-assisted steering delivers outstanding feel and also helps reduce fuel consumption. The Legacy 2.5i is equipped with standard 17-inch wheels (alloy on Premium), and the Limited trims feature 18-in. alloy wheels.
Active Torque Vectoring, an enhancement of the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) stability and traction control system, fosters more neutral cornering by applying brake pressure to the inside front wheel.
Inside the passenger cabin, the driver faces a decidedly sporty instrument panel, highlighted by two binocular-style gauge pods with a center LCD information display -- 3.5-in. on cars without the EyeSight driver-assist system and 5-in. on EyeSight cars. In all models, an ECO gauge indicates and promotes fuel-efficient driving habits using color bars. The Premium and Limited-trims feature gauges with elegant blue ring illumination.
The heater control panel integrates the digital clock and outside air temperature displays, with the time automatically corrected by GPS in navigation-equipped models. A new one-touch lane changer function for the turn signals adds convenience.
A combination of soft-touch materials, thick cushioning for armrests and the center console give the Legacy a premium feel. A standard 60/40 split fold-down rear seat expands carrying capacity.
